Open-pollinated red amaranth from our Vancouver Island garden. The parent plants have burgundy foliage and dense magenta flower spikes, adding rich colour and texture to sunny summer planting.
Why we love it:
- Burgundy leaves that bring colour even beyond the flowers.
- Dense, upright and arching flower spikes with a richly textured appearance.
- A striking contrast to green foliage in mixed borders and informal gardens.
Growing: Choose a warm, sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil. Start seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before planting out, or sow outdoors after the risk of frost has passed. Acclimatize indoor-grown seedlings before transplanting. Protect young plants from cold and keep them watered as they establish.
About these seeds: Open-pollinated Amaranthus; the species and cultivar have not been confirmed. The photograph shows our own parent plants. Seed-grown plants may vary in colour, height and form. Offered as ornamental planting seed.
300+ seeds per packet (0.28 g).
