Madia gracilis is a yellow-flowering plant native to the Pacific Coast and many other areas across North America. Madia seeds are oil-rich and have been used as a food staple for centuries, particularly in some parts of California. The roasted seeds can be ground into powder for piñole as an alternative to ground corn.

In addition to Madia gracilis’s long history as a food plant, it is part of the larger aster family, making it a charming addition to any garden and an excellent pollinator support plant.
