A room could offer shelter while keeping its occupants connected to the living world. At Wright’s Robie House in Chicago, bands of patterned glass helped make that relationship part of everyday experience. This panel adapts casement window No. 51.
Its diamonds and chevrons belong to a window vocabulary the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation describes as abstracted foliage. Red and gold gather along the centre while clear areas preserve a sense of openness. The geometry echoes the house itself, connecting the smallest detail to the larger space.
This is the human purpose behind Wright’s organic architecture: surroundings conceived as a coherent whole, with nature present in the experience of living indoors. Seen that way, the panel’s balance of pattern and openness suggests both a place to belong and room to look beyond it.
Contemporary art-glass adaptation of Wright’s design. Includes a hanging chain and wood display stand.
Dimensions: 14″ × 5.75″
